2024 Practice Info & Important Dates
- Cross Country Workout Schedule
- Please work up to running at least 15 miles per week over the summer. This should be done in a gradual progression. If you start 5 weeks ahead of time, you could do 3 miles one week, then 6, 9, 12, and end at 15. Not conditioning prior to the season will make your cross-country experience much more challenging. Even if you don't work up to 15 miles per week, running some on your own during the summer will improve your experience during the season. Nearly all runners who start running with us wish they had conditioned over the summer.
- Workouts: Wednesday 7/31 - Thursday 8/1: 7:00am-8:15am
- Workouts: Monday 8/5 - Thursday 8/8: 7:00am-8:15am
- Team and Individual Pictures: Date TBA
- Be at the stadium at 4:00 pm to get your uniform for pictures.
- After pictures, the athletic boosters will serve you a free hotdog and drink.
- Parent/team meeting at 7:30 pm. I know these get repetitive but parents please attend if you can, I like to meet everyone before the season starts.
- Workouts: Monday 8/12 - Thursday 8/15 7:00am-8:30am
- Workouts: Monday 8/19 - Thursday 8/22: 3:30pm-5:00pm (Teacher Workdays)
- Remainder of Season: Monday - Friday 3:30pm-5:30pm (actual end time may vary, sometimes we finish as early as 4:30 or as late as 6:00, I will try to send out remind messages when practice will be more excessively long or short.)
- Conference Meet: 10/16, 4:30 pm (Don't join the team if you don't plan to be present at this meet.)
- Regional Meet: 10/26, time and location TBA. (Top seven boys and top seven girls qualify to go.)
- State Meet: 11/2 (Usually the top 25% of teams in the regional plus the top seven runners not on those teams.)
2024 Schedule (TBA)
Our Course
- The original Wheatmore cross country course is a full 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of grueling hills and is among the most difficult in our area. Rick Maness and Misty Wolfe designed the course shortly after the school opened. Since then, Coach Benner has made a few adjustments to the original course due to construction on campus and safety concerns.
- View the original course map and elevation profile here: http://www.mapmyrun.com/us/trinity-nc/wheatmore-cross-country-course-route-128315661
- For most meets, we now use this course configuration for maximum safety and fairness: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/1816400489

Parent Info
- Uniform Care - Uniforms are provided by the generosity of the Wheatmore athletic booster club. It is OK to machine wash uniforms but please hang dry them or tumble dry low. Do not make any alterations to the uniforms or remove the tags inside the uniforms. Athletes are expected to return their uniforms at the conclusion of the season. If desired, I will give each senior an "old" uniform at the conclusion of his/her career.
- Team Mom - I usually try to recruit one parent to organize others to bring freeze pops and snacks to every meet.
- Meet Volunteers - Every home meet will require 8-10 volunteers for items like monitoring crosswalks and timing. We usually end up hosting a lot of meets.
- Fundraiser - Each year, I try to do a fundraiser in order to have funds available to continually improve our course. This money will be used for things like truckloads of rock, gates, fences, culvert pipes and meet management items.
